Taylor Hayes is exhibiting new mixed media paintings based on memories of home. In this series, she recreates the many homes from her life as a means to contemplate what "home" is. Most are painted from the perspective of the outside looking in as a way to reflect back along time, whereas more recent homes are painted from the inside looking out. Taylor combines acrylic paint, pen and ink, and collage techniques into her works resulting in a very textural and mixed media surface.

Taylor grew up in Roanoke, Virginia where from a very young age she spent hours doodling at the kitchen table. She adventured to Winston-Salem in 2009 to pursue a degree at Salem College where she studied Arts Management and Studio Art.

Taylor now works at the Sawtooth School for Visual Art as the Marketing Manager and spends her free time finding ways to be creative and make art. Find out more about Taylor and her work at www.taylorhayesart.com.

Kimberly Varnadoe is exhibiting photo-based works inspired by her recent residency at the Black Mountain School, a resurgence of the original Black Mountain College. All works relate to light utilizing basic processes to experimental applications. Varnadoe was influenced by the mission of Black Mountain College, circa 1933-1957, an iconic experiment in art education with a campus in Black Mountain, North Carolina.

Varnadoe has a BFA in painting from the University of South Alabama. Her MFA degree is in printmaking from the University of Memphis. She has also studied traditional and experimental photography. She is a professor of studio art and Gallery Director for the Elberson Fine Arts Center at Salem College, where she has been teaching for more than 20 years.

Varnadoe has been a member of Artworks Gallery since 2002.

The exhibit is free and open to the public.
