Nancy Hayes: "Me and Thee" and
"Vivid Message: The Commercial Art of Mike Foley"
August 31 - September 27, 2014
Meet the Artists: Friday, September 5 at the Gallery Hop, 7 - 10 pm
Artworks Gallery presents a two-person exhibit of works by Nancy Hayes and Mike Foley.
Recently a friend commented to the artist Nancy Hayes that they had not seen each other in a while. Nancy explained that for reasons unknown to her, she turned the phrase over in her mind as it echoed through many possible ways in which long time acquaintances see each other over time. Intrigued by this comment, she was further motivated to consider her longstanding interest in the self-portrait as a means of seeing “the self” and changes over time. The outcome is presented as part of a show at Artworks Gallery during September, 2014. Not wanting to be too serious, however, Nancy balances the introspective with a lighthearted exploration of portraits of the animal kingdom as she has many times. The works in this exhibit focuses on the farm.
Hayes has a BA in English from the University of Georgia and a BFA in art education from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro.
For Business and Industry or for anybody who's ever needed to sell anything, Mike Foley's new exhibit, “Vivid Message”, shows you how to do it with art.
Foley says, "The beauty is, there's more than one way to shave a possum... No matter how tight your deadline or how limited your budget, there's always an opportunity to create great original work." From a cardboard sign announcing a yard sale to a prize-winning film for Wake Forest's Business School, Mike Foley's exhibit features his latest work plus favorite projects since landing in Winston-Salem to work at LHC / Mullen nearly 20 years ago.
Mike Foley is a brand-selling, storytelling graphic artist and filmmaker. As a writer and creative director, he's worked in advertising agencies from LA to NY and created campaigns for Disney, NASCAR, Head & Shoulders, Old Spice, Taco Bell, Miller Brewing Company, Virgin Drinks, RJ Reynolds and Hanes with Michael Jordan. He works with companies to create short films and webisodes that merge both narrative and documentary styles of filmmaking. Foley is married to Jennifer and is raising two art critics, Jack and Ella Minnow Pea.
