Alan Calhoun Solo Exhibit
January 29 - February 23, 2013
Meet the Artist: Friday, February 1, Gallery Hop, 7 - 10pm
Artworks Gallery presents a one-person exhibit by Alan Calhoun of digital photographs of the walls of an old building at 512 North Main St, which reminds him of Winston-Salem from the early days in Old Salem to the present. History is revealed in the faded and peeling layers of paint and old signage, resulting in beautiful abstract compositions. These pieces represent the kaleidoscope of a dynamic community and Calhoun’s wish for an appreciation of the hidden beauty in the “old and cast off” that nature and time has created in a place.
Calhoun earned his BFA in photography and painting from East Tennessee State University and became a corporate photographer and department manager for a Fortune 500 company for 30 years, winning several awards.
