Artworks Gallery is presenting "Interior Landscapes", a one-person exhibit of paintings by Chris Flory.
Chris Flory is showing small acrylic paintings. "Interior Landscapes" refers to the countryside she finds within herself. Some of these paintings represent ideas or experiences or simply colors. But she is a landscape painter at heart, and physical references keep making their appearance. Each painting consists of many layers of paint. She switched to acrylic from oil two years ago so that she doesn't have to wait long for the layers to dry. The panels she paints on are simply poplar shelving.
Chris Flory was born in Philadelphia, Pa. She has a BFA in Printmaking from Philadelphia College of Art (1972) and an MFA in painting from UNC-Greensboro (1992). She has been a member of Artworks Gallery since 1993. She has shown her paintings there every year since, as well as in travelling shows of Artworks members at the Hickory Art Museum, Meredith College, and High Point University. Her work has also been shown in Art on Paper at the Weatherspoon Museum (2002), and group exhibitions at Green Hill Center and Wake Forest University Art Gallery, among other places.
The opening reception is Friday, March 7, 7 - 10 PM, coinciding with the Gallery Hop in the Arts District.
The reception and exhibit are free and open to the public. |
