"Watermarks" – Jody Danner Walker & July 3 - Aug. 4, 2007 Artworks Gallery is presenting "Watermarks," cast glass and mixed media by Jody Danner Walker, and "Skies the Limit," landscape watercolors by Carl Gericke. Jody Walker, as a new member of Artworks Gallery, is showing mixed media works, plus cast glass pieces. Primarily a self-taught oil painter, acrylic and pastel artist, she started working in kiln-formed glass in 2001. She finds that it allows her to combine the images from the canvas with the textures of the glass. The qualities of glass add enormously to the possibilities for self-expression. Her art can be found in galleries, private and corporate collections across the U.S. She has been accepted in many juried shows around the country. She was just accepted, for the third time, to the prestigious Pilchuck Auction, which only juries in 250 glass artists from around the world. It is held annually to benefit glass artist Dale Chihuly's famous Pilchuck Glass School. She teaches advanced classes on kiln-formed glass around the country and in her new gallery and studio called Warm Glass Elements, in Clemmons, NC. Carl Gericke is showing watercolors emphasizing the skies of N.C. He is a graduate of Parsons School of Design in N.Y.C. He also studied art at the Art Students League and the School of Visual Arts in New York City. He retired to King, NC, in 1996. The opening reception will coincide with the Gallery Hop Friday, July 6, from 7-10 pm. The exhibit is free and open to the public. (Click on any image for a larger view)
