Artworks Gallery is presenting "Prints from the '60s and '70s", a one-person show of silkscreen and woodcut prints by Anne Kesler Shields. The exhibit will run from March 20 to April 21, 2007. The reception is Sunday, March 25, 2-4pm and is free and open to the public.
Anne Kesler Shields is showing woodcut and silkscreen hand-pulled original prints from the 1960s and 1970s. With the silkscreen prints, she was involved in creating geometric designs that used color for a variety of optical effects determined by the careful mixing of color ink values with the arrangement of specific colors next to each other. The woodcut prints deal with abstracted patterns from landscape scenes.
Ms. Shields received her MFA at the University of NC at Greensboro in 1959, and her BA at Hollins College, Roanoke, VA. She studied with Hans Hofmann in Provincetown, Massachusetts, and attended Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine.
Artworks Gallery is open the First Friday evening of every month with the W-S Arts District "Gallery Hop".
The exhibit is free and open to the public.
