Cindy Taplin began painting images of birds when her mother was terminally ill. It made no sense at the time because birds had terrified her since she was a little girl. The urge to paint these creatures was intense, and in retrospect it was perhaps a way to confront her greatest fears: encounters with birds and the death of her mother. The phobia has given way to fascination, and now she spends a great deal of time watching and photographing birds to paint. This collection includes a variety of birds, from a robin on her front gate to a group of ravens enjoying a parking lot buffet in Flagstaff, AZ.
Cindy is a native of Forsyth County. She earned a B.A. in Mathematics at Salem College, where she also studied studio art. She paints in her studio in the Arts District of Winston-Salem.
Nanu La Rosee will be exhibiting new paintings on the theme of “Alliteration”. She has been a member of Artworks Gallery since 1991. She has a Master of Library Science from Appalachian State University, a BFA in Painting from Washington University in St. Louis, and went to high school in Visual Arts at the North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, NC.
The exhibit is free and open to the public.
