James Gemma and Lea Lackey-Zachmann

August 30 - September 26 , 2015
Opening Reception during Gallery Hop, Friday, September 4, 7 - 10 p.m.

James Gemma's exhibit is entitled Abstractions in Shape and Color, in which he explores relationships among shapes and colors, strongly utilizing geometric forms. The works are abstract acrylic paintings on canvas and linen, along with fine art original digital prints.

James Gemma graduated with advanced degrees from Ohio State University. After completing his career as a consumer research professional, he studied art and printmaking at Salem College and Wake Forest University. He also participated in multiple art workshops at Penland, the Huntington Museum of Art, and the Sawtooth Center for Visual Art. Mr. Gemma served four years as board member of Associated Artists of Winston Salem. As Marketing Chairperson of that group, he created the Practicing Artist Series of lectures and critiques, bringing the participation of nationally known artists to Winston-Salem.

Lea Lackey-Zachmann’s Tree Translations is an exhibit consisting of playful interpretations of trees. Collage, painting and sculpture form the diverse collection of images that arise from surface observation, microscopic and energetic views of an oak and a holly tree. Each was inspired by an appreciation for trees.

Lackey-Zachmann holds a BA in Art Education from Winthrop University and an MFA from the University of NC at Greensboro. She has taught at High Point University for over 20 years in the subjects of Drawing, Design, Art History, Art Education and Painting. She is a founding member of Artworks Gallery, and has served as chair of exhibitions for years. She lives with her husband, two dogs and a cat in Winston-Salem.
