Alan Calhoun and Beverly Noyes

May 3 - 28, 2011
Opening "Meet the Artist:" Friday, May 6, 7-9 pm

Artworks Gallery presents a two-person exhibit entitled "Here to Infinity," with photographs of the Outer Banks by Alan Calhoun, and watercolor paintings of galaxies by Beverly Noyes from May 3 through May 28 with an opening "Meet the Artist" Friday, May 6, 7-9 pm. during Gallery Hop in the Arts District.

Post to Post Alan CalhounAlan Calhoun is showing black and white photographs taken at the Outer Banks, NC. He says: "We all have a place we can go to unwind, relax and contemplate life. My place is the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The natural beauty of the beaches and dunes seem to be in a state of constant change. Artistically capturing these changes of the dunes challenges my photographic and graphic abilities. Along with the natural beauty is the history and manmade objects that seem to accentuate the harmony between nature and man. This harmony truly makes the Outer Banks my place." Mr. Calhoun makes sure that the emphasis is on the composition of the digital image and not on the photo shop process. Basically his art is produced in the camera and not in the computer.

Alan Calhoun studied art and photography at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City. After receiving a BFA degree in photography he went into the corporate world as a staff photographer. Over a thirty year period he did a variety of work from public relation photography, advertising and event coverage.

Tadpole Galaxy Beverly NoyesBeverly Noyes’ latest work is a series of watercolors motivated by the majestic Galaxies observed through telescopes orbiting in space. She has been awed by the number and variety of Galaxies identified in recent years, with each Galaxy exhibiting different glorious shapes and colors. Mrs. Noyes became interested in Astronomy a few years ago and has taken several courses on the subject. She traveled to Arizona to the Lowell Observatory for a week long seminar and had the opportunity to use the Lowell telescope on several occasions. She recently attended a Star Masters Weekend at the Primland Observatory in Virginia which featured the internationally acclaimed astrophysicist, Dr. Alex Filippenko. Mrs. Noyes chose a few examples from the endless number of visually exciting Galaxies as the inspiration for this new series.

A native of Minnesota, Mrs. Noyes has lived in Winston-Salem since 1971. She earned an MFA from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a BS in Art Education from St. Cloud State University in Minnesota.

The exhibit and opening is free and open to the public.
