Artworks Gallery presents a one-person exhibit by Nelida Otero Flatow entitled: "Images of a Cuban Pedro Pan Girl, 1954-2006". For the past two years Ms.Flatow has been working on a series of short stories about her early childhood in Cuba and her arrival in the US in 1961 as a part of Operation Pedro Pan. Over 15,000 children were airlifted out of Cuba between 1960 and October of 1962 (Cuban Missile Crisis), and placed in schools, orphanages and homes throughout the US. Ms. Flatow, her brother, and her cousin were sent to an orphanage in Pueblo Colorado to await her parents. Her current show of work on paper comes out of this examination of her early years. |
